I, too, want my children to love to learn but most of all to be and do what GOD created them to be and do, and my biggest prayer for my children is also that they would "know Him, love Him, follow Him, trust Him, serve Him....This is my ultimate hope." AMEN and AMEN. I appreciate your expressing this so succinctly.

JudiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7596826491172481628.post-52392115268119624602011-08-31T16:24:34.786-07:002011-08-31T16:24:34.786-07:00NO, you don't have to write it all out. Can't wait to read more from you on this...sacra vimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04873890064879355727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7596826491172481628.post-2739399046281392412011-08-29T08:52:22.589-07:002011-08-29T08:52:22.589-07:00Susan - I agree with all of this, esp.:"Whic...Susan - I agree with all of this, esp.:"Which brings up another problem. I’ve been talking with my kids about what to say and what not to say about our homeschool, their interests and pursuits and projects, and where this all led them. And they are quite happy with me sharing about our homeschool days, though they prefer that, in some cases, I should not use names. One of my children also said that the learning life in our home was rich and deep and joyful and full of life, and it was valid whether or not the kids went to college or ended up accomplishing things that most people want to see homeschoolers achieve."

Even though we both have graduate degrees, we are NOT that concerned about college - I would love to hear from your children about their lives, not to "grade" whether their experience was "Successful" or not, but simply because we seem to be the oddities in our circle of friends, where college seems to be the 11th commandment. There seems to be a subtle pressure among our friends' children that of course you will go to college and of course you will not live at home. I don't understand this jump all of the sudden when 12th grade hits. So please, if your children are willing, I would love to hear from them - it would encourage us who sometimes feel like we are making a big mistake to simply let kids go the way the Lord grows them.
D.B.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7596826491172481628.post-69004116342161102592011-08-27T09:27:26.864-07:002011-08-27T09:27:26.864-07:00Thank you, Aimee. One thought that crossed my mind was the development of developmental studies in colleges that occurred fifteen years ago. Yes, these are departments within colleges that devote classes to reading and writing for the college populations, since they lack the basic skills to succeed in a freshman literature or writing class or critical thinking.
Every year tax payer monies are funneled through federal and state grants to support these departments in colleges.
Another random thought is that I just read an article where Siemans have so many job openings ( in our jobless economy) because the US lacks people with math and tech skills... They can not pass the basic testing to qualify for these positions. So after reading this article, I checked out their website and yes they have many jobs available.
Looking forward to your next post.www.mominapocket@aol.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13745787427210388134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7596826491172481628.post-85524800504389757472011-08-26T23:02:49.226-07:002011-08-26T23:02:49.226-07:00I waited all day hoping you'd post part two......I waited all day hoping you'd post part two...I'm taking notes and eager to learn! You have some precious insights here. I wish I had more of your perspective when my children were younger---especially that of valuing my children for the unique individuals God created them to be. I am learning though, and striving towards this end, and thankfully it's never too late. It really boils down to the lovely example that Christ set for us when He walked this earth. The gentle, wise, tender way that He dealt with individuals. I want so much to follow His example. And this seems to be what you strove to do in your homeschooling, Susan. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts, and may God richly bless you and your dear children. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7596826491172481628.post-19057898649439248882011-08-26T16:16:44.448-07:002011-08-26T16:16:44.448-07:00you know I am loving this series...you are a voice...you know I am loving this series...you are a voice of freedom and beauty in homeschooling as a Christian....thank you, Susan for taking the time to minister to all of us by writing these things.Aimeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09312982290929692281noreply@blogger.com
